Kakku lies 26 miles South of Taunggyi sharing border with Naung Mon Township in the East, Kha-le mountain ranges in the West and 1300 meters above sea level. It is famous for Kakku Pagodas, thousand of pagodas of various shapes sizes and descriptions dotted within the compound are main attraction. There are also beautiful landscapes in which pagodas are set and small winding road leading to pagoda complex allowing a close observation of the vegetation and cultivation. Pa-oh people near and far come to this religious complex with hundreds of bullock carts to participate annual pagoda festival (Harvest festival) in mid March.
It is a hidden treasure of Shan state comprising of more than 2000 stupas packed in ranks covering an area of about a square kilometer, unknown to outside world. Main attraction is to worship the Kakku pagoda complex to study the daily life of pa-oh tribes and trekking around the area.
