Putao
Putao is the extreme northern city Myanmar, 218 miles north of Myitkyina and it has been seat of Government for and well-planned city. There are snow-capped mountains on west, north and east; all are over 10,000 feet, which are the eastern Himalayan Ranges. Putao district is 11,916 sq. miles and is 1,342 feet above sea level. The residences of this area are Pawang, Lisu, Khamti Shan, Jing Phaw and Bamar living in harmony and peacefully. Business in Putao is based on regional products like vegetables, citrus gruits, traditional foods, hand-made clothing medical plants, roots, fruits and orchids.
One place not to be missed in Putao is Mulashidi Village, 8 miles away, can be reached by crossing the suspension bridge made of steel cables, 200 ft. long and 6 ft. wide over Mula River. On the way to Mulashidi village, there are lovely traditional Lisu houses, where the natural beauty remains intact in the region. Weather is cool all round the year.
Another prominent and beautiful site is mount Khagaborazi 5889 meters high, the highest in Myanmar and Southeast Asia. There is also Khagaborazi National Park where one can study flora and fauna of Myanmar. Fifty varieties of local orchid’s species can be observed. Putao is the starting point for Myanmar’s most trekking adventures.
