Sa-le
Sa-le is a small town in Magwe division about 15 Km South of Bagan, down the Ayarwaddy River. It is famous for Sa-le Monastery and Sa-le U Ponnya Museum. Sa-le monastery tends to be a blend between monastic and residential architecture with 152 feet in length and 76 feet in breadth. The Sa-le monastery was built with 154 posts and contains a total of 45 sculptured pieces depicting 550 Lord Buddha’s previous lives from the Zataka. One can observe and admire sculpturing hand work of eminent sculptors from Yezagyo Township in the monastery. In the main chamber of the Sa-le monastery, there is chance of viewing a very rare throne and the throne’s wooden entrance of the 13th AD Bagan period architecture.
Sa-le monastery also contains Sa-le U Ponnya Museum or the Yoke Sone Monastery, honored to U Ponnya a famous Myanmar literate for his satires, poems and plays. Sa-le monastery and the museum of U Ponnya are the prime for Myanmar culture, literature and historical evidences.
