Tachileik
Tachileik is located near Myanmar and Thailand border in the Eastern Shan state and is the gate way to the Golden Triangle. It links with the Thai border town Maesai by the friendship bridge over Mae Sai creek and developed by tourism and border trade with Laos, Thailand and China. It is an hour and half flight time directly from Yangon and there are air routes from Mandalay and Heho as well. There is a ferry port at Wanpon on the Mekon River at Myanmar-Laos border, 29 Km from Tachileik which handles cargo boats to and from Thailand and China. Development is under way to make Tachileik a Trade Exchange Centre.
