Thaton
Thaton, an old city built on an equal regular like modern cities of Amarapura and Mandalay and located between the Sittaung and Than Lwin (Salween) Rivers. It was a flourishing port in ancient days. Attractive site around Thaton are:-

Shwezayan Pagoda
Shwezayan Pagoda was built in 5th Century BC and has been rebuilt over and over again by kings and present days with a circular base and bell shaped superstructure. There are seven inscribed stones among which there is a figure of standing Buddha depicted in relief on a sandstone slab.

Kyaikhtee Saung Pagoda (An ancient late rite Stone Pagoda)
It is one of the earliest hair relic pagodas in Mon state and is located on the late rite stone hillock. At 1971, the monk U Pyinnyadipa, founded the old pagoda under the huge bushes and renovated the old pagoda and old laterite hillock. Now the Kyaikhtee Saung Golden Pagoda has appeared surrounded by the new buildings for the religious purposes.
